ASUS announced at CES 2021 the news of its range of notebook solutions belonging to the ROG family: these are the most powerful models, designed for the needs of videogames enthusiasts and which use the new NVIDIA GPUs of the GEForce RTX family 3000. The most impressive product is ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE , notebook that matches a main screen to ScreenPad Plus , the secondary screen between main and keyboard.

Under the body we find the new AMD Ryzen series processors 5000 , with model Ryzen 9 5900 HX as a top-of-the-range proposal, in combination with the video card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 with 16 GB of dedicated video memory. The main screen has 4K resolution with a refresh rate of 90 Hz with coverage at 100% Adobe RGB color space, but a Full HD screen version with a refresh rate of is also available Hz, with 3 ms response time and coverage at 100% of the sRGB color space. Both panels are PANTONE Validated, have super thin side bezels and implement Adaptive-Sync technology.

Gamers can use the secondary panel ScreenPad Plus , characterized by a diagonal of 14, 1 inch, for browsing the web, reading emails, chatting via instant messaging apps and play or record gameplay streams. ROG has collaborated with developers to produce additional interactive content dedicated to the secondary display, in addition to the partnership with XSplit Gamecaster to allow gamers to monitor the streams generated during the game action on the main display. In addition, ROG has partnered with Adobe to create additional content creation tools dedicated to some of the creative software.

The Active Aerodynamic System Plus (AAS +) cooling system has been updated to apply to more powerful CPUs and GPUs without increasing noise levels. The design relies on an air vent located underneath the secondary display to aid in dissipation. It features new Arc Flow fans which increase the airflow of the 13% compared to the previous generation, dissipates the heat produced by the AMD CPU through a thermal compound of liquid metal and uses five heat pipes and four heatsinks characterized by a larger surface.

The onboard storage is based on two SSDs in Raid 0 configuration, capable of reaching a sequential transfer rate up to 7GB / s for a overall of 2TB; system memory sees a total of 32 GB with DDR4 modules – 3200. The battery from 90 Wh of capacity is also recharged via USB Type-C port, up to a maximum of 100 Watt. The overall size of this notebook is 26 x 26, 8 x 2,1 cm, for a weight of 2,4Kg.

The second novelty is represented by the notebook ROG Strix SCAR 17 , product that can be configured using a dedicated video card up to the GeForce RTX model 3080 , paired with the mobile processor up to AMD Ryzen 9 5900 HX , matched up to 64 GB system memory DDR $ – 3200.

SCAR 17 can be configured with two different types of screens , the first of which has Full HD resolution with refresh rate which goes up to 360 Hz with a response time of 3 ms . An optional WQHD display at 165 Hz adds fluidity to high level of detail and the DCI-P3 color gamut. Both solutions rely on Adaptive-Sync technology, and ROG engineers have worked to minimize the size of the side bezel in order to ensure a generous screen-to-body ratio for even more immersive gaming.

SCAR 17 has four speakers and can count on Dolby Atmos technology for advanced audio effects with the aim of giving gamers a competitive advantage, allowing them to accurately identify the location of noises in the gameplay such as footsteps or shots. Two-Way AI Noise-Cancelation, for bi-directional AI noise cancellation, filters out ambient noise for crystal-clear communications while gaming, even when in noisy environments.

The declared operating autonomy with battery is up to 12 hours , thanks to the unit from 90 Wh included in the notebook ; there is no lack of support for fast charging, with full compatibility for USB Type-C power supplies from 100 watts. A distinctive feature of this notebook is the keyboard with mechanical and optical technology, equipped with RGB lighting for each element, 1.9 mm key travel and zero bounce delay to ensure almost instant typing. The trackpad has also been enlarged by 85% compared to the one that equipped the previous model, so that it is easier to use it in conditions of mobility. All this was achieved with a containment of the overall dimensions compared to the previous generation.

The latest addition to the ROG notebook range is ROG Flow X , the ultraportable gaming notebook from 13 inches based on processor AMD Ryzen 9 5980 HS with dedicated video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 . The energy-efficient CPU helps extend battery life, allowing Flow X 13 to insure up to 10 hours of play on a single full charge. The super light USB-C® PD battery charger is supplied from 100 watt that allows to obtain a battery recharge from zero to 60% in only 39 minutes.

Flow X 13 is not only a compact gaming notebook but also a convertible , thanks to the 360 ° until it is positioned under the keyboard; screen has ratio 16: 10, to maximize productivity, and is offered in Full HD or 4K versions depending on the user’s preference. Both have Adaptive-Sync technology support and are Pantone Validated for superb color accuracy.

Flow X 13 can be combined with XG Mobile , an external GPU with NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics 3080 . When connected, XG Mobile allows Flow X 10 to achieve graphics processing power equivalent to larger gaming platforms. The connection between notebook and external GPU takes place through the proprietary eGPU connector , capable of ensuring a bandwidth equal to 63 Gbps dedicated exclusively to graphics, with the result of being able to count on significantly higher performance than eGPUs with Thunderbolt connection. The increase in graphic performance of XG Mobile ensures Flow X 13 versatility to manage content creation, Triple A games and productivity in conditions of mobility, while at home no longer afraid of games heavy. XG Mobile also integrates the dedicated USB 3.2 Gen 2 link, which powers an input / output hub for additional connectivity, and an integrated power supply from 280 watt, which supports both XG Mobile and Flow X 13 so that users don’t have to carry an extra charger with them .

With Flow X 13 ASUS therefore proposes a compact notebook in the convertible category, suitable for productivity away from the desk, which can be easily converted into a powerful workstation for gaming or even working through the connection to the XG Mobile external GPU, taking advantage of the dedicated connection. ASUS has already stated that this type of proprietary high-speed connection will also be maintained for future notebook versions of this category , so as to offer its users a complete ecosystem.
