Gigabyte and MSI introduced the new generation of PCIe4 SSDs
Source: IO Tech added 17th Jan 2021Both Gigabyte’s and MSI’s future SSDs promise read speeds of up to 7 GB / s at best
. The Aorus Gen4 7000 s SSDs introduced by Gigabyte are based on Phison’s second generation PS 5018 – E 18 – to the PCIe4 controller circuit. 12 The nanometer process control circuit supports eight NAND Flash channels, DDR4 cache and NVMe 1.4 protocol.
Gigabyte has equipped its SSD with new 96 layered TLC NAND chips that are at their best 1200 MT / s (MegaTransfers / s) speed. With the new controller circuit and NAND chips, the SSD is promised to reach its best 7000 MB / s sequential read and 6850 MB / s write speeds . The cooling of the SSD is the responsibility of the aluminum cooler enclosing the entire drive, which according to the company keeps the drive %) cooler.
For MSI, the company’s future SSD will be its first. According to MSI, the drive is capable of 7000 MB / s sequential read and 6900 MB / s write speeds, supports PCI Express 4.0 x4 bus and uses TLC NAND memories. The company did not disclose the controller circuit it used at this point, but it is most likely the same Phison E 18 as the Gigabyte. According to MSI, the average Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of its SSD is 1.6 million hours.
