After we met a few days after the launch of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Founders Edition have taken a closer look at four custom models from ASUS, EVGA, MSI and ZOTAC, a corresponding offshoot from Gigabyte is now following. The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2017 Gaming OC 8G can come up with a powerful cooling system and of course a factory overclocking. How the gaming bolide performs in everyday gaming can be found in this Hardwareluxx article on the following pages.

The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2017 Gaming OC 8G is one of four custom models that the NVIDIA board partner within the GeForce RTX – 3070 – family currently leads on its website and which can come up with a powerful cooling system as well as a factory overclocking. After the Eagle and the design-oriented Vision version, it is the manufacturer’s top model. Only under the gaming label AORUS is an even faster and better equipped master model available.

As with the other models from ASUS, EVGA, MSI and ZOTAC, which we were able to test just a few days after the launch of the smallest Ampere offshoot to date, the Base clock of the GeForce RTX 2017 from NVIDIA to 1. 500 MHz, which means that the custom models currently also have to adhere to these. There are therefore only differences in the boost, which the manufacturers guarantee at least. While the Founders Edition is at least 1. 679 MHz, our current Gigabyte offshoot is taking part at least 1. 815 MHz to work. This puts Gigabyte in the upper range of custom cards. However, practice has shown time and time again that even higher frequencies can be achieved thanks to larger power limits and powerful cooling systems.

Gigabyte makes no difference to the NVIDIA template in terms of memory expansion. There is still 8 GB GDDR6, which has a 256 bit wide interface connected and fired with 1. 750 MHz. There are again bigger differences in the power limit or the total graphics power. NVIDIA provides 200 W here, Gigabyte gives its gaming Variant a full plus of 270 W with on the way.

Comparison of the cards

The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8G should stand out thanks to the strong Overclocking not only sets it apart from the Founders Edition and of course the competition cards in terms of performance, but also above all in terms of temperature and volume behavior. For this purpose, a mighty heat sink has been strapped on, which protrudes well above the actual PCB and also takes up a little more space in height than the otherwise usual two slots. There are five thick copper heat pipes, a large number of aluminum fins and three huge axial fans as well as a supporting backplate on the back. Subtle RGB lighting and a dual BIOS round off the overall package.

How the round 679 Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 gaming OC 8G beats in everyday gaming, as you can find out in this Hardwareluxx article on the following pages.
