Under the name Glow, a new software for Markdown documents is available, which it displays as a TUI application in the terminal emulator. The developers place particular emphasis on an aesthetically pleasing reading experience, but also on the cloud connection of the open source tool.

After the Start searches Glow’s local directory, including the folders it contains, and displays a list of Markdown documents it finds. If the user calls up a Git repository, the tool recognizes this and browses through it completely. The user can then navigate through the content with the usual less commands. With the option – w you can also specify a maximum line length, for example 60 characters, at the start, in which Glow automatically wraps the content.

Glow tries to recognize the background color of the terminal emulator automatically and selects a suitable dark or light style for the output. This can also be specified with the option – s . The user can create and provide other topics as JSON files, instructions can be found on GitHub.

Secured in the cloud Documents can also be uploaded to the Charm Cloud from the same developer by pressing s . If the registered user starts Glow, the software always shows the list of files saved here. However, an account is required. According to the provider, it is not about data evaluation: The uploaded documents are cryptographically secured so that only the local Glow client can decrypt them. The SSH public-private key procedure is used here.
