Graphics card availability: NVIDIA and AMD dampen expectations for new shipments
Source: Hardware Luxx added 14th Jan 2021Although a few months have passed since the official sales start of the new generation of graphics cards, it is still hardly possible to buy an NVIDIA RTX – 3000 – graphics card or an AMD Radeon RX 6000 – GPU at a reasonable price. Now the two companies have commented on the shortage and what they have to say gives little hope of an imminent improvement in the delivery situation.
In a conversation with TheVerge, AMD announced that in the course of the first quarter 2021 more Radeon RX 6800 -, Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6900 XT cards via their own website wanting to sell at list price. AMD promises to supply “as many customers as possible”, but the company does not provide exact figures.
NVIDIA also commented on the medium-term availability of the RTX – 3000 series. The shortage is expected to continue until the end of the first quarter, i.e. at least until the end of March 2021. Interested parties should not accept within the next few months a GeForce RTX 3070, RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 at the originally published RRP. At the same time, the company emphasized that the problem is not limited production, but rather excessive demand.
According to the graphics card manufacturer, twice as many graphics cards have been sold since the launch of NVIDIA Ampere compared to the same period after previous generations went on sale. The company did not comment on the availability of the GeForce RTX 3060, which will be launched in February. However, it can be assumed that comparable problems are to be expected at market launch.
