heise + | Fast network storage in the test: four NAS for 10 Gigabit Ethernet
Source: Heise.de added 20th Nov 2020Move huge files over the network at one GByte per second – this is possible with the right NAS, fast mass storage device and configuration tricks.

Fast clients can therefore write or read large blocks of data at over 1 GB / s – older network storage devices of the gigabit generation cannot keep up with this.
We asked several NAS manufacturers about current models that with a suitable configuration at least 800 MByte / s throughput should deliver. The following came into the house: Asustor AS 6508 T, QNAP TS-h 686, Synology DS 3018 xs, Thecus N 4910 U Pro-S. Buffalo Technology only sells devices with disks, but no longer empty housings. Netgear was able to post the RN 192 X after Do not provide your own information. So we tested the performance of the remaining four devices with different types of mass storage devices.
The QNAP TS-h 686 we measured both with the new QuTS Hero operating system, which relies on ZFS as the file system, and with the established QTS (EXT4 ). The bar chart on the right shows measured values for both variants. On the basis of the results, we decided to recommend QTS for the “large files” application scenario and rated this in the test table.
