The Gnome desktop environment is progressing with manageable steps. The developers of the user interface for Linux and Unix systems have version 3. 38 both the visible control elements as well as the underlying components have been revised.

If several monitors are connected, mother can now control them in Wayland mode with an individual refresh rate. The window manager should draw the content faster if the screen offers this. If a program or game is running in full-screen mode, the compositor can be bypassed in order to display the content directly on the monitor, which relieves the CPU and graphics chip.

The screen recording integrated in the Gnome Shell (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R) has been outsourced to its own service and now uses PipeWire and Kernel interfaces. Systems with Intel graphics currently benefit from this thanks to more fluid recordings.
