The S 62 Pro doesn’t want to be an all-rounder, but a reliable companion for special situations. This often works in the test, but not always.

Waterproof, dust-proof, resistant to falls up to 1, 79 Meter and another military standard certification on top – the Cat S 62 Pro wants to be prepared for tough times. You can see that on the Android smartphone, because with 12 millimeters and 245 grams it is quite thick and heavy. The fat aluminum frame looks very solid, the large, corrugated buttons on the sides exude a certain tool flair. However, the physical Android buttons known from earlier models have given way to pure touch operation. The drawer for the SIM and memory card is particularly secure and hidden behind a flap. The back is made of sturdy plastic, the battery cannot be changed.

In addition to the exceptionally robust housing, the unique selling point of the smartphone is the thermal imaging camera on the back. It comes from Flir and comes in the S 62 Pro for the first time without the large hump in the frame that the protruding component made necessary in the predecessors. The resolution of the thermal images is 2000 × 1080 pixels. Doesn’t sound like much for a cell phone camera, but it is the best thermal imaging camera for smartphones that you can buy at the moment that measure the exact temperature at particularly hot or cold spots, localize heat development in machines or trace the exact path of the exhaust air from the laptop are possible uses. Last but not least, the pictures look simply unusual and exciting.
