Amazon Web Services (AWS) are suffering from extensive disruptions in the US-EAST-1 region. This affects a long line of websites, apps, streaming services and so on that rely on AWS services. The issues started late Wednesday afternoon and AWS is working to fix them. However, it should still take hours after that until everything has leveled out again.

The core of the glitches are issues with AWS ‘Kinesis Data Streams API. This API is used by numerous AWS services that are either malfunctioning themselves or that work, but can display incorrect information about their status. The latter is the case, for example, with EC2 instances. For customers whose AutoScaling does not do as it should, AWS refers to the possibility of manual adjustments in AutoScaling Groups.

The list of impaired online offers is long. The celebrities include 1Password, Adobe Spark, Autodesk, Coinbase, Flickr, Meetup, Pokémon Go, Roku, RSS Podcasting, and the Washington Post. Depending on the structure, the problems are limited to certain regions of the world. For example, Adobe Spark claims that it is affected in North, Central and South America. While Adobe’s Data Science Workspace and Data Foundation were back on their feet after four and a half hours, the difficulties with Behance, Lightroom, InDesign, Portfolio, Spark, XD still persist after seven hours.

There is a problem According to Amazon on Wednesday evening the following AWS services are disrupted: ACM, Amplify Console, API Gateway, AppMesh, AppStream2, AppSync, Athena, AWS Signer, Batch, CodeArtifact, CodeGuru Profiler, CodeGuru Reviewer, CloudFormation, CloudMap, CloudTrail, Cognito, Connect, DynamoDB, Elastic Beanstalk , EventBridge, Glue, IoT Services, Lambda, LEX, Macie, Managed Blockchain, Marketplace, MediaLive, MediaConvert, Personalize, RDS Performance Insights, Rekognition, Resource Groups, SageMaker, Support Console, Well Architected and Workspaces.

In addition, there were increased error rates for almost two hours with the AWS Web Application Firewall in the EU-WEST-1 region.

Amazon is gradually improving the situation. Since 7: 30 o’clock CET, Kinsesis data streams were accessible from the Internet again. Users who access their virtual private cloud via access have to be patient a little longer. The CloudWatch service for recording the status of cloud instances is also gradually recovering in terms of new data. Processing the backlog will take time.
