Huawei could get chips from Qualcomm again
Source: Hardware Luxx added 11th Nov 2020After it was announced yesterday that Huawei would like to part with its subsidiary Honor, there now seems to be more encouraging news for the Chinese telecommunications supplier. The company is said to have received permission again to purchase SoCs from the US semiconductor manufacturer Qualcomm. Samsung, Intel and LG have also received a special permit. This allows companies to deliver components to Huawei.
At the moment it remains to be seen whether Qualcomm will actually deliver the said chips to the People’s Republic. An official statement from the semiconductor manufacturer is still pending. Only the Chinese media announced the new special regulation. Furthermore, the future will show whether the sanctions will be further withdrawn and whether Samsung and SK Hynix will be allowed to supply Huawei again with components. This also applies to TSMC. The Taiwanese company is also hoping for a special permit to be able to supply the Chinese telecommunications equipment supplier again.
Despite the change of power in the United States of America, it is unlikely that the new US President Joe Biden will back down on the trade dispute with the People’s Republic of China becomes. As the Tagesschau website shows, hardly anyone in China believes that the new president will change anything in the current conflict. Thus, things could be bad for Huawei in the future. In the worst-case scenario, it would be possible that the sanctions imposed are further tightened and the special permits are suspended.
