Microsoft’s new Xbox generation appeared just a few weeks ago, the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has now announced in an interview with The Verge that should soon make the purchase of such a console unnecessary. Similar to xCloud, the Xbox streaming service for mobile devices, which is, however, still in its infancy, a similar application should find its way into common smart TV systems in the medium term.

This would make it possible, similar to streaming services, such as Netflix, to simply start the Xbox Smart TV app, and then from 100 Play one to select. Instead of a console, all you need is a compatible controller, a smart TV and a subscription to the Xbox Games Pass Ultimate. This currently costs approximately 12, 50 euros per month. Similar to Google Stadia, for example, the games are streamed directly from Microsoft’s servers at home to the TV, which means that you do not need your own hardware to play them.

For fans of their own home console, who are concerned that this could mean the end of the Xbox, gives Spencer the all-clear: He says that he firmly believes that this will not be the last console from Microsoft and that he is more likely to spend the future in a hybrid interaction Cloud gaming and proprietary gaming hardware. So players should always be able to buy their own Xbox.

The xCloud service, which will soon also be available on the new Series X and S consoles, offers a little foretaste of how the system could work. This enables gamers to try out games before actually downloading them, for example in the form of a demo version that is streamed to the Xbox.
