Over the years, Naughty Dog has increasingly experimented with widening the scope of its games, from semi-open areas in Uncharted 4 to a freely-explorable open zone in The Last of Us Part II. With the studio’s next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog seems to be going all out scale-wise – with one insider comparing the upcoming title to Elden Ring.

Back in October last year, prior to the official announcement of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Minnmax host Ben Hanson offered an interesting tidbit on Naughty Dog’s next game, stating at the time:

“I heard from somebody very in the know who worked on the game that they’re like Jesus Christ… the tone was like you are all not ready for how amazing this is going to be… and the tone was (I’m not going to say the game that they referenced to compare it)… but they compared to a game with a lot of player freedom.”

Months on, and Hanson has finally confirmed that the comparison is question was towards FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, recently revealing “that game was Elden Ring that [Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet] was compared to back then. If I would have said ‘Naughty Dog’s next game is like Elden Ring’ and then that reveal trailer came out, I feel like we would have been lit on fire.”

While we so far only have the one reveal trailer to go off of, the game’s director Neil Druckmann has since offered additional details, including a claimed focus on exploration and freedom.

Whether the team is going full open world with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet we will have to wait and see. Regardless, Naughty Dog does not seem to miss, and so it will be highly interesting to see exactly what they have planned for this new IP.
