Intel helps with game optimization on more than eight cores
Source: Hardware Luxx added 25th Nov 2020End 2017 Intel made an analysis of itself attentive, which was about showing that more than eight cores are not worthwhile for games. The appearance of the Core i9 – 9900 KS with eight cores at 5 GHz was of course also not entirely coincidentally scheduled during this period. Intel reacted to the core superiority of AMD, which was already relatively fast on the desktop with the Ryzen 9 3950 X on the desktop 16 Zen 2 based cores
At that time, however, Intel was still clearly ahead of AMD in games, even if this lead has now largely been lost. More than eight cores were not necessary in November 2017 and yet in May 2020 the Core i9 – 10900 K (and later the Core i9- 10850 K) that could offer ten fast cores. Games were also the main argument for Intel this spring.
IO Interactive announces in a blog post that it will work with Intel to optimize Hitman 3 for the PC. One of the optimizations stipulates that the game uses more than eight cores:
“These optimizations include enhancing HITMAN 3 for PC players with 8+ core CPUs, for example you’ll be able to (…) “
Hitman 3 should be released later in the year 2021, so you have to put an end 2019 No longer attach great importance to the statement regarding a sufficient number of cores, but this is interesting because Intel 2021 probably no longer has any desktop processor than eight cores.
It is officially known that Intel’s next desktop generation after Comet Lake-S will be called Rocket Lake-S. It is also known that a new core architecture called Cypress Cove will be used. Intel will serve the platform with PCI-Express 4.0 and a higher number of lanes. In addition, there are USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, new chipsets, an improved memory controller and much more.
Intel has also confirmed that Rocket Lake-S will support a maximum of eight cores and now the question can be asked ask why Intel is trying to optimize it for 8+ cores. We do not want to interpret much into the statement or the blog post by IO Interactive and Intel. It just shows once more that “what interests me my chatter from yesterday” is not uncommon in the IT industry and that such manufacturer statements should always be made with caution are enjoy, or are only a snapshot, because a short time later this manufacturer could also take the other argument.
