The first processors belonging to the Ice Lake family and using 10 debuted last year technological process – of course, we are talking about the mobile versions of Ice Lake-U. This year, however, there are improved Tiger Lake processors based on lithography 10 nm SuperFin. The technological process originally used on mobile Ice Lake was also to be used with server processors from the same Ice Lake family, which would be based on the Sunny Cove architecture. Just a few months ago, Intel promised the premiere of Ice Lake-SP server processors, which were shifted several times, for the end of the year 2020. Intel’s publishing plan for the years 2021 / 2022 has entered the network, which shows that new Xeon server processors we will wait again.

According to Intel’s new publishing plan, which has entered the network, we will wait for Ice Lake server processors at least until Q2 2021 year. Sapphire Rapids will also debut next year.

publishing plans that have appeared on the web (of course, the information is currently unconfirmed, and you can see the plan itself below the paragraph), Intel plans to introduce different variants of Xeon chips depending on specific applications. To a large extent, new products will be based on Xeon Ice Lake-SP processors (including Whitley, Tennessee Pass, Coyote Pass). Systems based on the Sunny Cove architecture are to be equipped, among others in 8-channel DDR4 memory controller and support for PCIe 4.0 interface. If the information that has leaked into the network is true, we will have another delay in the debut of these units. Even during Architecture Day, Intel promised to debut this year, but according to the shared plan, the premiere will take place no earlier than in the second quarter 2021 of the year.

According to the same release plan, there are no reports of the next generation delay yet – Sapphire Rapids to take advantage of the SuperFin process 10, DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 interface. The graphic above shows that Intel is currently planning the premiere of Sapphire Rapids more or less in the third quarter 2021 of the year, only a few months after Ice Lake’s debut. SP. It should also not be forgotten that the Sapphire Rapids chips will have to fight the AMD EPYC Genoa server processors, which will appear in the fourth quarter of next year and will be the first to use the new Zen 4 architecture and 5nm technological process from TSMC.
