Intel has presented the next generation of memory and storage products during its Memory and Storage 2020 event. The company has introduced six new products: Intel Optane SSD P5800X, Intel Optane Memory H20, 3rd Gen Intel Optane persistent memory, Intel SSD 670p, Intel SSD D7-P5510, and Intel SSD D5-P5316.

Starting with the Intel Optane SSD P5800X, this will be Intel’s first PCIe 4.0 SSD, performing up to 3x times faster than its predecessor. Just like the SSD P4800X, the P5800X offers “excellent endurance and overall performance”, making it an excellent solution for data centre storage.

The Intel Optane Memory H20 for client platforms is Intel’s next generation of high performance and capacity storage solution for ultrabooks and small and compact PCs. Featuring Intel quad-level-cell (QLC) 3D NAND, H20 memory provides users with “breakthrough responsiveness” to rapidly search and find files, load applications faster, and transfer data at PCIe speeds.

Intel also mentioned the 3rd generation of Optane persistent memory, codenamed “Crow Pass”, but it hasn’t revealed much about it besides that it will be delivered alongside Intel Xeon Scalable Sapphire Rapids processors.

Jumping on to the NAND SSDs, there’s the Intel 670p, a next-generation 144-layer QLC-based SSD for the mainstream market. Featuring Pyrite 2.0 security and power-loss notification support, the 670p improves “IT efficiency and drive manageability for real-world uses and applications in the PC client”.

Designed for cloud data centre environments, the D7-P5510 will be the first 144-layer triple-layer-cell (TLC) NAND SSD reaching the market. The D7-P5510 will come in a U.2 form factor, and it will be available with 3.84TB or 7.68TB. This SSD is set to launch during this quarter of the year.

Finally, we have the D5-P5316, the first 144-layer QLC-based SSD, scheduled to release in H1 2021. Each die of the D5-P5316 has 128GB, providing up to 200% better read performance, 38% better random read performance, and 48% better latency when compared to HDDs. Available with 15.36TB and 30.72TB capacities, the D5-P5316 comes in both U.2 or E1.L form factors. Thanks to its form factor and outstanding maximum storage capacity, the D5-P5316 30.72TB SSD is the first storage solution to enable a full petabyte in a 1U of a rack.
