Intel Iris Xe MAX Graphics – work on the graphics card is finished
Source: Pure PC added 24th Oct 2020A few weeks ago, the Intel Tiger Lake processors debuted, and the first models using the latest one have already arrived in stores 11 generation of Intel Core chips. This year, the manufacturer plans one more premiere, which is a dedicated Intel Iris Xe MAX Graphics graphics card, previously known as DG1. This is the first entry into the dedicated GPU market after many years. Intel Iris Xe MAX Graphics has been prepared primarily for laptops. Next year, however, there will be much stronger cards for players, using the Xe-HPG architecture. Bob Swan, president of Intel, has confirmed the completion of work on DG1 and the distribution of final chips to OEM partners.
Intel has confirmed the completion of work on a dedicated Iris Xe MAX Graphics card (Intel DG1 ) – GPUs are already shipping to OEM partners.
Intel Iris Xe MAX Graphics, like the integrated Iris Xe chip in Tiger Lake processors, is equipped with 96 EU units, which translates into 768 stream processors. The final clock speed of the graphics card is still unknown, as the manufacturer has still not provided the exact specification of the GPU. We hope that all cards will be revealed by the end of this month. The information we have, however, shows that Iris Xe MAX Graphics has 4 GB of its own LPDDR4x memory clocked 4267 MHz. It is simply a separate memory from the entire RAM pool prepared in a given laptop. So if the laptop has, for example 16 GB RAM LPDDR4x 4267 MHz, 4 GB is reserved for the Intel GPU, and the computer can use the remaining 12 GB. However, it is possible that there will be other Iris Xe MAX Graphics configurations, but we have to wait for Intel’s confirmation.
For now, the manufacturer has confirmed the completion of work on DG1 and the sending of the final cards to OEM partners. Thanks to this, the premiere of laptops with a new graphics card will take place before the end of the year. Intel Iris Xe MAX Graphics is to be a competitor to such a card as NVIDIA GeForce MX 350. Unfortunately, we still do not know exactly how the switching between the integrated system and the dedicated card takes place. The notebook does not have any visible software to manage this, but according to early measurements it is done automatically. In the second half of next year, cards from the Intel DG2 line will debut, which will be equipped with at least 384 EU units – it is said that the maximum configuration will have as many as 960 EU units, thus facing the top graphics cards NVIDIA Ampere and AMD RDNA 2.
