Intel has unveiled the foundations and some information on Rocket Lake desktop CPUs that will debut during the first quarter 2021. The new solutions will be based on architecture x 86 derived from Ice Lake and will offer a GPU Xe Graphics. Expected double-digit improvement in IPC and very high clock rates.

Rocket Lake Core Intel Xe
In recent weeks Intel confirmed that the CPUs Rocket Lake for desktop systems (specifically Rocket Lake-S) that will constitute the range Eleventh Generation Cores will arrive in the course of first quarter 2021 , challenging the Ryzen 5000 from AMD to offer gaming performance at the highest levels.
In these hours, Intel has revealed some more details , going to confirm some indiscretions leaked in the previous months: at the base of Rocket Lake we will find the new architecture x 86 Cypress Cove (the foundations are those of Ice Lake, i.e. core Sunny Cove , and not Willow Cove like Tiger Lake mobile chips), capable of improve performance double digit IPC performance . Alongside a maximum of 8 cores and 16 thread we will find a Intel UHD integrated GPU based on Intel Xe Graphics architecture for services up to 50% higher than current Gen9 / 9.5 GPUs. Intel does not write this, but according to rumors the Rocket Lake chips will be made again at 14 nanometers.
With Rocket Lake Intel again focuses on frequency and IPC performance , fundamental aspects for video games and a good part of traditional software. Intel has also confirmed that Rocket Lake will offer “up to 20 PCIe lanes 4.0, Quick Sync Video for better video transcoding and hardware acceleration of the latest codecs, new overclocking features for more flexible processing and support for instructions such as Deep Learning Boost and VNNI for artificial intelligence “.
We obviously await more details, but it is interesting to note how the logos do not mention the Core i3, an aspect that suggests how the series will not be updated, at least initially. Also confirmed the arrival of new motherboards with series chipsets 500 (even if Rocket Lake solutions can be install in LGA socket 1200 of motherboard series 400) and native DDR4 support – 3200.
