Intel is separating from its NAND memory division. The South Korean company SK hynix is taking over the Intel division for a total of 7.7 billion euros. This is the largest takeover by the South Koreans to date. Both manufacturers intend to have completed the transfer of business by year 2025. The Optane flash memory technology remains in the possession of Intel.

SK hynix is already the second largest manufacturer of DRAM chips worldwide. However, when it comes to flash memory or NAND chips, which are used in devices such as smartphones, the company is lagging behind. SK hynix CEO, Seok-Hee Lee, stated that the takeover promises to achieve a similar position in the NAND flash memory market as is currently the case with DRAM chips. According to market researcher Trendforce, SK Hynix ranked fourth in global NAND sales in the second quarter of this year. Intel, however, was in sixth place.

The takeover by SK hynix also had a positive effect on Intel securities. The share recorded an increase of almost 1% and rose to a total of 55, 12 U.S. dollar. However, the price of SK hynix fell by around 1% due to the new acquisition.
