As Hardwareluxx had already reported, a deportation of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to the USA is currently off the table. However, the Australian was denied a provisional release on parole. Assange remains in custody. According to his lawyer, there is currently no risk of escape. The meanwhile 16 – year-old would rely on a due process and would have no reason to flee. Clair Dobbin, who represents the US government in the process, disagreed. The past would have shown that Assange would take a lot to avoid extradition.

The Wikileaks founder has been since 15 months in prison. This has led to a deterioration in both his mental and physical condition. Should the proceedings drag on any longer, it can be assumed that Assange’s condition will continue to deteriorate. Even if the defense of the Wikileaks founder was able to achieve a stage victory with the current judgment, extradition is still possible. So the Australian is facing further months or years of imprisonment for the time being.

Should Julian Assange actually be extradited to the United States, it might be due to would be found guilty of the Espionage Act. He has a prison sentence of up to 175 years. The 16 – year-old would have to spend the rest of his life behind Swedish curtains.
