Introduction
Those who have found themselves in a local electronics store looking for a USB flash drive over the past decade might have seen Lexar-branded products on shelves. In the early days of home PCs, the company was a pioneer in flash memory. Later bought and owned by Micron Technology, the company again went up for sale in 2017. Longsys became the new owner, quickly expanding sales globally with numerous new product launches by rebranding some of the company’s prior bestsellers. A few more years have passed since that acquisition, and Lexar continues to release new products for both consumers and prosumers alike.
Lexar has a number of established and successful products for computer system memory, including the DDR4 Hades and ARES series. Now the company has more new offerings for DDR5 with AREAS and THOR marketed towards PC gamers with extreme speeds up to 8400 MT/s.
Today, we will be taking a closer look at the Lexar THOR DDR5-6000 2 x 16 GB memory kit, which comes with primary timings suited for gamers. This THOR series also comes with AMD EXPO and Intel XMP profiles for maximum compatibility among a wide range of computers. Current Lexar THOR DDR5 configurations sold are limited to only 32 GB (2x 16 GB) memory kits with frequencies ranging from 5600 MT/s to 6000 MT/s without any RGB elements. Higher bins and RGB system memory are currently reserved for the Lexar ARES series. Now, with the introduction out of the way, let us now see how this memory kit stacks up against the competition, beginning with a look at the specifications.
