That LG was working on a device with a display ‘ ‘rollable’ it was known but that it was actually so far ahead in the project perhaps it was not believed yet yesterday during the conference at CES 2021 unveiled for a few minutes its first smartphone with an expanding display: LG Rollable. A not new and original idea that other companies are also developing, OPPO first of all, and that certainly cannot go unnoticed among the most passionate users in the world of smartphones and technology.
LG Rollable: this is how it’s done
Despite the doubts and perplexities given by a smartphone that rolls up and sees many problems in the development of the case, LG Rollable has become practically a reality. In the short clip unveiled by the brand, a normal smartphone is shown in the landscape which suddenly and even fully automatic expands its display, with an electronic mechanism that makes it become a real small tablet. Conversely, at a later time the same panel does nothing but shrink by switching from tablet to smartphone mode.
LG’s goal is to show that the ” Rollable ” smartphone exists and will soon arrive on the market. Virtually null the details of the smartphone that LG will keep secret as much as possible until the real presentation event of the device, which is not yet known. In this case the idea of LG is in clear opposition with that of Samsung, HUAWEI or Motorola that we have seen during the year have decided to focus on devices with classic folding solutions, both vertically and horizontally. LG Rollable unlike a classic foldable always maintains the same thickness by simply expanding the screen and perhaps making its use more comfortable.
On a technical level we think of an OLED panel that can reach a size of 7.4 inches once fully expanded starting from a 6.8 inch base with a resolution that would expand from 1080 pixel a 1600 pixels thus allowing a mini tablet format capable of enlarging the contents to be seen on the screen.
