As the cybersecurity company itself has recognized in a statement, Malwarebytes has been attacked by nationally organized cybercriminals detected in other past attacks whose origin could be the Russian government, according to the US recently pointed out.

The attackers gained access to internal Malwarebytes emails

The attack affected Malwarebytes environments equipped with Azure servers and Office systems 365, where the attacker got access internal company emails . According to the company itself, no further data, production environments, or local equipment at the company’s facilities were affected. Also the source code of your applications were not affected after checking it even by reverse engineering your own software.

The intrusion was detected after a warning by Microsoft when it detected suspicious activity of a foreign application in Office 365 with methods similar to a past attack on SolarWinds. Both Malwarebytes and Microsoft continue to investigate these attacks to gather more information.
