With the “Federal IT Consolidation” initiative, the Federal Government intends to 73 Bringing ministries up to scratch, at least from a technical perspective. The aim of the project is to bring together server-side IT solutions from the authorities on standardized servers at the Federal Information Technology Center (ITZBund). The authority projects planned in the BKB project concern around 130. 000 jobs and 30. 000 Server. It is important to create the technical and organizational prerequisites in each individual authority that are necessary for a successful consolidation.

The current planning provides that all activities up to the year 2028 be completed successfully. The implementation takes place in a total of four waves. However, it remains to be seen whether this will succeed. Although the plans mentioned sound quite good on paper, the complexity is likely to lead to problems that will take up additional time. Even if the planning took around five years, not all special cases can be considered in advance.

In principle, an authority project is carried out within a period of three calendar years. A project begins with a three-month initialization phase. The preparatory phase is valid after a maximum of 10 months complete. This is followed by a two-year implementation phase. Thus the government project ends at the latest after a term of 36 months .
