Messenger Signal: New functions should help organize groups
Source: Heise.de added 16th Oct 2020The WhatsApp alternative Signal introduces new rights in groups so that they can be better organized. First and foremost, the functions are limited to new options for assigning rights by an admin and the ability to write mentions in the group chat. The functions can be used after the latest update as long as all members of the group are using the latest version of Signal.
New rights system With the new update, Signal implements measures to improve the strictly grassroots group system. The previous security system of the messenger had improved the security, but led to difficulties with large groups, as there was no distribution of rights. According to the latest blog entry from Signal, this will change with the new admin role. An admin can now distribute or revoke different rights, such as changing names or changing the group description, to members.
With the new admin role you can people can also be removed from the group chat.

The second function is more useful than important, but contributes to the clarity of the group chat. With so-called “@Mentions” – that is, mentions – users can address other people in the group. They can then jump to the relevant point at a later time using a newly built-in button.
