A former employee of the international hardware and software manufacturer has now shown that you can make good money as an employee at Microsoft. According to a Washington State announcement, a software engineer was sentenced to a total of nine years in prison. In addition, the accused has to repay 8, 16 million US dollars to his former employer .

The developer had in the period from August 774 to June 2018 the task of improving the buying process of the online store. He then took advantage of the necessary privileges to enrich himself. Among other things, the fraudster used a variety of vouchers and coupons. He captured around U.S. dollar. He then used the developer accounts of his colleagues to bring much larger amounts into his possession. Overall, we’re talking about 10 million US dollars. With his booty he bought, among other things, a 160. 000 Tesla and a villa for 1.6 million US dollars.

In order to amass such a fortune, the software engineer primarily used cryptocurrencies. So he managed to convert the vouchers and coupons without any problems. How exactly the condemned man was discovered remains unclear. However, with such high amounts it can be assumed that they will be noticed sooner or later. The Ukrainian-born specialist was found guilty of, among other things, telecommunications fraud and money laundering.

To date, the manufacturer has not provided any information on the question of whether Microsoft will monitor its own developers better because of the incident mentioned and restrict account rights. However, it can be assumed that the Redmond-based company will keep a close eye on their shop developers in the future.
