Microsoft will soon bring Xbox cloud gaming to iOS and Windows too
Source: Hardware Luxx added 13th Dec 2020Yesterday Microsoft published a press release in which, in addition to some numbers and thanks for the release of the new Xbox Series X and S, news about the future of the Xbox Game Pass was announced were. The cloud gaming service should be available on iOS and Windows devices in spring next year. On Windows PCs, access to the Game Pass should be possible both via the Xbox app and via a browser. On iOS devices, such as the iPad or iPhone, the use of the game streaming service should only be possible in the browser; a separate app should not follow.
Even if Microsoft said nothing more about the controller support, it can be assumed that the new Xbox Series X controllers, as well as the Xbox wireless controllers, will be compatible.
Originally, Microsoft wanted to start offering the cloud gaming service for iOS and Android at the same time. Apple thwarted this by banning game streaming services on its own platform. This was followed by a slight relaxation of the restrictions, which in practice still did not allow the service to be offered. For example, Apple demanded that every available game be treated as an individual app and that they therefore have to be submitted to the company for review.
In addition, providers of a cloud gaming service should always ensure that all in-app purchases are made via Apple’s own payment interface, which grants the group a percentage of each purchase. Despite loud criticism from Microsoft, the iPhone manufacturer has not deviated from its position so far, which means that only the browser can be used.
NVIDIA’s game streaming service GeForce Now is already accessible via the Safari browser, as is Amazon Luna. Google Stadia should follow in the near future.
