A password manager is integrated into Microsoft’s Authenticator app. “Microsoft AutoFill” is already available as a public preview, but only for Microsoft accounts, with the exception of Azure-based work and school accounts. Autofill works for the Edge and Chrome browsers as well as iOS and Android devices.

The app can now generate strong passwords that If desired, they can also be synchronized across devices via mobile and desktop. When entering each password, the authenticator asks whether it should save it. Alternatively, you can of course have him create a new, more secure password. All saved passwords are protected with multi-factor authentication. Whether Microsoft itself has access to the saved passwords remains open.

In order to use the function now, you have to go to Beta under the settings in the app and from there select AutoFill. Mobile devices require at least iOS 12 and Android 6 or higher, according to a blog post from Microsoft.

Next Big Thing: Password manager Google has also just launched a password manager for Chrome that can fill in both access and payment data despite the synchronization function being deactivated. One click should then be enough to register. A Google account is of course required, in which all other passwords are stored.

Apple’s keychain is supposed to check whether passwords have been compromised and notify users of this. The link to change the password concerned can be found in the message. Google is currently introducing something similar for its already existing check for compromised passport guardians, but the developers must first provide the corresponding link.
