Graphics cards from Nvidia’s past Turing generation alias GeForce RTX 2000 and GTX 1600 are almost impossible to get any more – and if so, then at greatly increased prices. Now Nvidia supposedly wants to supply graphics card manufacturers with new old GPUs to revive parts of the Turing middle class.

According to a report on the French website Overclocking should be the GeForce RTX 2060 and GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER return. The necessary TU 106 – graphics chips come from Nvidia, the manufacturer cards should come from partners.

Capacity expansion The reasons are not known. Nvidia could expand the product capacities with the reintroduction: The RTX – 2000 – series was created with GPUs from TSMCs 12 – Nanometer production, so improved 16 – nm technology. While the modern processes with structures of 7 and 5 nm are booked out, capacities can possibly be booked at short notice with the old generation. The ampere GPUs from the RTX – 3000, on the other hand, come from Samsung with their own handling, e.g. for packaging.

In addition, RTX – 2060 – graphics cards with simpler components for the power supply are sufficient, so that manufacturers can use other equipment than the successor generation. The delivery situation is currently very tense, manufacturers have to juggle controllers, for example.

High prices question marks raises the pricing: According to Overclocking the GeForce RTX 2070 and GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER at the old prices of around 300 and 400 return euros. Actually, the GeForce RTX 3060 will appear at the end of February 2021 Prices from 320 Euro (RRP). The Ti version costs after an adjustment of the recommended price – according to Nvidia due to the increased VAT 19 Percent – theoretically 420 Euro, but is only occasionally from 650 Euro.

If the graphics cards were more available, a GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER due to the expected performance gap significantly cheaper than a GeForce RTX 3060.
