In the future, StackRox will belong to Red Hat, with the planned takeover of the Kubernetes security provider, the software manufacturer primarily wants to strengthen its OpenShift. The latter is Red Hat’s cloud management platform, which combines a Kubernetes distribution with other services and support for corporate use.

Red Hat wants to integrate the StackRox software into OpenShift, but the announcement of the takeover remains vague here: users should be able to enforce their security guidelines in every phase of the life cycle of an application, the tools for this should be available natively in OpenShift in the future. At the same time, both companies promise to continue to offer the StackRox services for other Kubernetes platforms such as Amazon’s Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Microsoft’s Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and the Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).

Red Hat plans to complete the takeover in the first quarter 2021. All information available can be found in the announcements from Red Hat and StackRox. The competition is also currently strengthening its Kubernetes portfolio with acquisitions: Last year, SUSE bought Rancher Labs, VMware Octarine and Veeam Kasten.
