Introduction
Mountain is a Germany-based peripherals company founded in 2018. As a follow-up to 2020’s wired Makalu 67, the Makalu Max both expands and turns wireless Mountain’s first mouse release. Being a modular mouse, the Makalu Max in its base configuration has the same shape as the Makalu 67, but there are two magnetically attached side panels included with the mouse, allowing one to significantly alter the shape: The left-side panel adds a thumb rest, similar to the Razer Basilisk V3 Pro or ASUS ROG Chakram X, whereas the right-side panel adds a ring finger rest similar to the Mionix Naos. Since Mountain provides the necessary STL files, 3D-printing one’s own side panels is also a possibility. Furthermore, the Makalu Max employs a weight system, allowing one to bring the base weight of 107 g up to 132 g. The Makalu Max is equipped with PixArt’s PAW3370 sensor capable of 19,000 CPI, Kailh GM 8.0 main button switches rated for 80 million clicks, and pure PTFE feet. Mountain cites up to 80 hours of battery life, though no details are given whether this figure includes having illumination enabled. Speaking of, the RGB lighting can be configured within Base Camp, which also includes all the other usual configuration options.
