MSI announces the B550 Unify series of motherboards for enthusiasts
Source: KitGuru added 28th Oct 2020Coming right on time for the release of Ryzen 5000 series, MSI has introduced two new ATX B550 motherboards. Aimed at “enthusiast gamers”, both the B550 Unify and B550 Unify-X offer enhanced thermal and power solutions.
Featuring a UV black printing with no sight of RGB lighting whatsoever, the MSI B550 Unify motherboards focus on providing users with the best performance they can squeeze from their systems. The 14+2 digital phase design powered by a 90A power stage, Titanium Choke III, and 2x CPU 8-pin power connectors give extra power to the CPU for enhanced overclocking.
Such power design will definitely get hot, so MSI designed a cooling solution using two massive heatsinks connected by a heat-pipe, that is further enhanced through the use of 7W/MK thermal pads. Additionally, the quadruple M.2 connectors, from which 3x support PCI 4.0, also feature double-sided M.2 shield Frozr to keep SSD temperatures in check, preventing them from throttling.
The B550 Unify offer 4x DIMM slots (max 5600MHz), while the Unify-X model features only two (max 5800MHz). By using only 2x DIMM slots, extreme overclockers can push DRAM speeds even further due to the “clearer memory signal” that it offers.
Both motherboards feature 2.5Gb LAN interfaces and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity for blazing-fast data transfer. The back I/O also offers an HDMI 2.1 port, 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen2 ports, a USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port, 4x USB-A 2.0 ports, clear CMOS and flash BIOS buttons, and audio connectivity powered by a Realtek ALC1220P codec. Each motherboard also have 6x SATA 6Gbps ports, with support for RAID 0,1, and 10 (NVMe storage also has it), 4x USB 2.0 internal connectors, 2x USB 3.2 Gen1 connectors, and a USB-C 3.2 Gen2 internal connector. Additionally, both motherboards feature 4x EZ debug LEDs, a 2-digit debug code LED, an EZ LED control switch.
