Netflix is turning the price screw in Germany again
Source: Hardware Luxx added 14th Jan 2021It was already becoming apparent in the rumor mill: Now the video streaming platform Netflix has made its price adjustment official and above all made the higher-quality subscription packages more expensive. Two of the three subscriptions available in Germany will have to be paid more in future. The last time the price screw was turned in April 2019.
As Netflix announced on Thursday morning, they are increasing their services in Germany the prices. In future you will call for the premium tariff monthly 17, 99 Euro instead of as before 15, 99 Euros, which corresponds to a price increase of 2 euros. In the premium package, up to four devices can stream simultaneously and, depending on availability, in high-resolution 4K resolution. The standard package increases by 1 euro to the future 12, 99 euros per month. At least two simultaneous streams in HD quality are allowed here.
The basic price without full HD resolution and only for a single device remains unchanged at 7, 99 Euro im Month. In terms of image quality, for many series fans only at least the standard package should come into question. In contrast to the past, there has been a free month since August.
The new prices apply immediately to new customers. Existing customers will probably be spared until the next billing period. You will shortly be officially informed of the price increase, which will usually come into effect 30 days after notification. However, if you switch between tariffs, you have to pay the new prices today.
Netflix has thus increased prices in Germany about every two years. In other countries, such as the home country USA, the price screw had already been turned in October.
Even competitor Disney + recently increased prices from 6, 99 to 8, 99 Euro per month. This week, Netflix announced a new content offensive, under which they want to celebrate at least one film premiere per week in the future. This year alone they want to publish more than 70 in-house productions.
