In the Computex of the 2019, the last one held in person before the coronavirus pandemic, we were able to see first-hand the progress of Noctua in the manufacture of a totally passive heatsink. This model was capable of cooling processors from to 180 W of TDP without using any fan, only using the internal flow of the box. Even in boxes without any air flow, it was able to dissipate 120 W. For this, a system of six heatpipes was used that carried the heat from a polished base to a set of 12 aluminum fins with a considerable thickness.

Noctua’s passive heatsink will arrive during the second quarter of this year

This design has evolved and its arrival in the form of a final product on the market was scheduled for this quarter, but it seems that it has been delayed a few months and we will not be able to see it in stores until second quarter of the year.

At least that’s how it can be seen in the updated roadmap that Noctua itself has published on its website, where the estimated arrival of the passive heatsink is delayed until sometime between the months of April and June of this year.
