NVIDIA’s release of the new generation of Ampere graphics cards did not go as it did in Strömsö. Demand for graphics cards is at its peak while availability has stalled. Now the company’s CFO Colette Kress has commented on the situation at the Credit Suisse virtual conference.

According to NVIDIA, the primary consideration is the incredibly high demand for graphics cards. Regardless, the company’s production is limited not only to the silicon chips themselves, but also to other components and substrates for silicon chips. The company is constantly working to facilitate the availability of components for production, but Kress estimates that demand will exceed supply for at least the rest of the year and the company currently estimates that it will not be able to fully meet demand in a couple of months. However, Mrs Kress emphasized that it was difficult to make accurate estimates of the situation at all times.

In a conference call, John Pitzer of Credit Suisse also asked about cryptographic mining and the related demand for graphics cards. According to Kress, NVIDIA is aware of cryptographers ’interest in the company’s new graphics cards, but there is no real demand in the industry, he said. Mitch Steves, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets, recently estimated that NVIDIA would have sold new Ampere-generation graphics cards to cryptocurrents for at least $ 175 million during the third quarter.
