Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon mobile platform 678 (sequel to Snapdragon 675), which offers improved performance, high-speed connections for image and video capture, and immersive entertainment experiences. However, 5G is missing.

Qualcomm has just announced a new mid-range platform, which replaces the Snapdragon in the range 675. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform 678 offers performance upgrades, high-speed connections and is aimed at users who prefer a high-end multimedia experience. Too bad only for the absence of the integrated 5G modem.

The improvements over the last Snapdragon 675 generation can be listed in a few places:

  • Qualcomm Kryo CPU Core Clock Speed ​​460 up to 2.2 GHz
  • Qualcomm Adreno GPU Performance Increase 612

But there are also other news, like a new ISP for the support of more defined cameras in terms of graphic resolution, greater efficiency in multimedia and support for faster connections.

  • Photo and video: the ISP Qualcomm Spectra 250 L supports triple camera systems with sensors up to a 48 MP and zero shutter delay. Qualcomm’s third-generation artificial intelligence engine and features such as Portrait mode (Bokeh), Low-Light Capture and Laser Autofocus support will allow users to optimize the rendering of their photographs in all conditions. The ISP supports unlimited video recording at 4K Ultra HD resolution, slow-motion, 5x optical zoom, and more.
  • Multimedia : Snapdragon 678 will offer faster graphics rendering with both video and latest generation games, thanks ai core Kryo 460 and the Adreno GPU 612 enhanced. The new Mobile Platform is also optimized for Unity, Messiah, NeoX and Unreal Engine 4.
  • Connectivity : the integrated modem is the Snapdragon X 12 LTE, which guarantees a maximum download 600 Mbps and an upload of 150 Mbps. Also supports all major cellular modalities plus LAA (Licensed Assisted Access).
