It is not the first time that we have talked about sales figures in Japan, thanks to the information released by BCN Retail which monitors the shipments of the various models in the Asian state. Despite being a partial view of the market, it is nevertheless interesting to know that, in the 2020, the mirrorless camera best selling was the Olympus EM 10 Mark III .
Olympus EM 10 Mark III rides sales in Japan
As written recently, with the start of the new year there was the “handover” between Olympus and JIP as regards the management of the division imaging , which also includes cameras and lenses. However, these are data concerning the 2020 (from 1 January to 6 December) and therefore the merit is still to be attributed to the previous management.
It should be noted that the ranking proposed by BCN Retail concerns the mirrorless with interchangeable lens which are still among the most “fashionable” and therefore in any case representative of sales. As mentioned, in the first position there is the Olympus EM 10 Mark III in silver version sold in kit with optics 14 – 42 mm and 40 – 150 mm.
In second place instead we find the Canon EOS Kiss M (sold by us as EOS M 50) always sold in kit, while in third place the Olympus PEN E-PL9 . In general, scrolling the ranking you can see models that are not among the most recent (the same Olympus EM 10 Mark III is from 2017 and has already been replaced by Mark IV in 2020).
In fourth place there is for example the Sony A 6400 with the subsequent positions which are represented by the color variants of the other models. To find a new model you need to get to eighth position with the Panasonic Lumix GF9 while in ninth position there is the Nikon Z 50 and Sony A in tenth place 6100. It is interesting to note the absence of Fujifilm but also of solutions mirrorless full-frame which probably have a still not very accessible cost to become “mass” .
