More control over Renoir Notebookcheck has the Huawei RedmiBook 19 extensively tested with a new over- and underclocking tool called Renoir Mobile Tuning (RMT).

This tool allows users to adjust pl2 / pl1 / pl0 as well as boost duration, tctl temperature limiter , tdc and edc amperage modifiers . In addition, it is also a monitoring tool with which it is possible to see per core how much energy is consumed, how warm the core is and what the clock speed is. Detailed information can also be requested about the GPU, CPU, Infinity Fabric and memory speeds.

The software was specially developed for Renoir chips by a Reddit user who calls himself kbsk1. Notebookcheck used the tool on the Huawei RedmiBook 19 who has a Ryzen 4600 You have on board. The testers wanted to see whether this processor can be overclocked properly and whether the battery life can be extended by underclocking the chip.

Notebookcheck first tried to overclock the processor by using the pl2 / pl1 limits to 55 watts and the maximum temperature at to 95 degrees. However, this did not give a performance boost. The testers think this is because the U-series is already at its limit. The H-series would have a lot more overhead.

Underclocks the chip fared better. Lowering the pl2 / pl1 to 25 and 15 watts prevented the processor from getting hotter than 64, 4 degrees instead of 90 degrees. This obviously affected performance negatively, but the performance drop falls according to Notebook check as the tdp is actually halved. Unfortunately the site has not (yet) done battery tests.
