Introduction
Dating back to 1985, Patriot started in the United States San Francisco Bay Area and has since expanded with distribution channels around the world, offering consumers access to a wide range of different products. While the headquarters may still be located in the USA, not all the company’s products are assembled in the country, with facilities in Fremont, California, Taipei, and Taiwan.
Patriot currently offers multiple memory products, with consumer and enterprise lines to fit a wide range of customer needs. Taking the established DDR4 Viper brand, Patriot first released DDR5 under the Viper Venom line in early 2022. We already reviewed the DDR5-62000 and DDR5-7200 memory kits and are looking forward to more in the future! Teased at CES 2023, Patriot announced the Viper Xtreme 5 series. Aimed at PC enthusiasts and pushing into the 8000 MT/s territory, these “Xtreme” memory kits are available in both RGB and non-RGB models.
In this review, we will be taking a closer look at the Patriot Viper Patriot Xtreme 5 DDR5-8000 memory kit, marketed mainly towards overclocking PC enthusiasts and hardcore gamers with money to spare. This memory kit comes with three X.M.P profiles to help establish a baseline, with the main 8000 MT/s profile using enthusiast-grade primary timings of 38-48-48-84-117 at 1.45 V. It does however come with strict hardware requirements to use the highest memory frequencies as we will cover in detail later in this review. Enough introduction though, without further delay it’s time to take this memory for a spin, with plenty of overclocking along the way!
