IDC certifies a other quarter of f orti sales of personal computers registered in the EMEA area (Europe, Middle East and Afr ica). The third quarter 2020 recorded an average market growth of 11, 7% compared to the corresponding period of 2019, for a total of approximately 21 millions of solutions placed on the market.
Demand continues to be driven by the consumer sector , strong by a + 29, 3% year on year which compensates for the slight decrease, -2.1%, recorded by the commercial sector. Consumers have already adapted between the first and second quarters to the limitations imposed by the various national lockdowns implemented in these months of global pandemic but the process of purchasing new PCs useful for remote teaching and telework continues.
It must also be considered that the third quarter of the year is that of the so-called back to school , during which demand for new PC systems is historically high and linked to the consumer market. The companies, on the other hand, seem to have already set themselves up as a fleet of machines in the face of the new remote working methods: for this reason their demand for new systems in the reference period was overall equal to the previous year. Another evident dynamic is the type of devices sold: these are notebooks , with desktop systems continuing to record negative rates.
Turning to producers, HP maintains the first position with a market share of 25, 1%, however, recording a decrease of 2.1 % compared to the same period of 2019. Lenovo touched quota 23, 4%, recording a positive growth of 3.5% which is however lower than the market average. Also Dell saw a negative sign, as much as 6.6%, maintaining the third position with the 10, 9% of the total.
ASUS and Acer are placed in fourth place with values very close to each other; both recorded significant growth in the reporting period, with ASUS increasing sales volumes by as much as 66% while Acer del 25, 7%. The corresponding market share is 9.5% for the former and 9.2% for the latter.
