Several Philips TVs can currently no longer display content from streaming services such as Netflix and Disney + in HD resolutions. This confirmed manufacturer TP Vision heise online. According to user reports, the problem that affects the pre-installed Android TV has existed for several days. But because advertising trailers are still running in high resolution, many suspect a problem with the Widevine certificate.

The DRM system is just coming used for the actual content of the streaming services, so it has no influence on trailers. The Dutch website Tweakers reports that there has actually been a change in certification for the Philips TV platform. Accordingly, Widevine was downgraded from the highest security level 1 to level 3.

Compared to heise online, TP Vision, the manufacturer of Philips televisions, confirmed a problem with the playback of streaming content. They are already working flat out on a solution. However, TP Vision has not yet been able to name a time frame or background to the problem. Heise online will add this information at a later date. Since the beginning 2019, the Philips consumer electronics division has been continued by TP Vision.

Models of 2017 and 2018 affected According to Tweakers, the affected televisions are models from the years 2017 and 2018. They all have the MT 5891 SoC from Mediatek on board. The first reports of missing HD playback were published in the past few days on Reddit, where other users quickly spoke up about the problem.

The DRM certificate Widevine repeatedly causes problems with playback of streaming content. For example, Linux users could not use Disney + because the operating system only supports the lowest security level from Widevine.
