Weeks after the presentation, the delivery situation for Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3000 graphics cards has improved. It looks best with the GeForce RTX 3070 – it uses a smaller graphics chip than its two big sisters and is therefore easier to produce in larger quantities. Almost two dozen different manufacturer cards are currently available from individual retailers.

However, shops can pay well for the generally poor availability: The cheapest RTX 3070 – Models usually start at 600 Euro – 100 Euro via Nvidia’s recommended retail price. That’s why Asus’ compact dual version is available. MSI’s GeForce RTX 3070 Ventus 3X OC with three fans and a larger heat sink only occasionally attracts attention 550 to 600 Euro, but otherwise costs at least 700 Euro.

GeForce RTX 3090 also readily available Nvidia’s top model, the GeForce RTX 3090. A good dozen models are available at short notice, but here too with a surcharge: It starts at 1650 euros, some graphics cards range up to 2000 Euro. Nvidia’s recommended retail price is 1500 Euro.

The GeForce RTX 3080 as a more reasonable alternative, however, is still practically impossible to get. It is only about to 15 Percent slower than the GeForce RTX 3090 and comes with 10 instead of 24 GByte GDDR6X-RAM, therefore, should not even cost half as much according to Nvidia’s price recommendation. 700 Euro RRP are wishful thinking – only a handful of models are listed as available and these cost around 1000 Euro.

Nvidia boss Jensen Huang has already stated that the delivery situation will probably only be 2021 will be satisfactory. Until then, AMD’s Radeon-RX – 6000 – graphics cards will appear, which should also take on the competition in the high-end. (mma)
