Poles using cryptocurrencies receive threatening messages. An attempt to extort money appears in the background
Source: Pure PC added 23rd Dec 2020The Danger website, known for revealing all kinds of Internet crimes and threats that appear on the web, warns against a new extortion attempt. Some Polish internet users received a rather peculiar message, which showed that the author knows about our “crypto savings” and if we do not pay a specific ransom, we can expect his visit. The perpetrator assures that it will not be a pleasant meeting, as there are brutal declarations in the e-mail. In fact, the author threatens the addressee with burglary and aggression, which will result in bloodshed. As you probably guessed, this is nothing more than blackmail aimed at extorting the cryptocurrency. The question is who and why received the described message.
Polish Internet users who hold cryptocurrencies not for the first time become the target of cybercriminals. This time, there are threats to health and even life.
Metadata and data – a treasure trove of knowledge about us and our habits
Everything seems to indicate that most of the people affected by the attack belonged to former Ladger clients. The data of users of the service in question leaked some time ago and, as you can see, someone is trying to make money on the illegally obtained information. Of course, the message with the rather telling title of FUNERALS is only a fraud attempt, the purpose of which is to persuade a potential victim to pay a fee that will make the criminal opt out of burglary or murder. The extortionist gives a Bitcoin address and declares a waiting time of 48 hours.
The Powerbank may infect your smartphone with a Trojan. How to defend yourself?
The e-mail contains fragments such as “I know your home address”, “attack you or your family”, “this will not be my first break-in “And” you will not be the first death toll. ” The cybercriminal promises to refrain from acting after receiving approximately PLN 1000 in the bitcoin cryptocurrency. Some people will ignore this for sure, but keep in mind that the threats in the message are brutal. It is therefore not a bad idea to notify the nearest police station about this incident.
