Popsockets cell phone grips have some fans – they allow the user to hold large smartphones in particular with one hand more easily. The company founded by an American ex-philosophy professor is now one of the first accessory providers to support Apple’s MagSafe standard – for peripherals that have nothing to do with wireless charging, but those in iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Per and 12 Per Max uses built-in magnets.

Five product lines adapted Popsockets plans to adapt a total of five product lines for MagSafe. This includes the PopGrip handles themselves, which on devices of the iPhone – 12 – no longer have to be glued to the back of the case, but instead hold magnetically. The PopMount 2 for MagSafe is also available – the mount can also be used with cell phones on which the PopGrip for MagSafe sits. The PopWallet + for MagSafe holds up to three credit or NFC cards and should allow cards to be removed without having to remove them from the mobile phone. Shielding ensures that there is no magnetic damage to the cards.

There is also a new PopMount for MagSafe for the car, which can be attached to the ventilation slot. Here, too, the connection to the iPhone is magnetic. The PopGrip Slide Stretch, which can be attached mechanically to the sides of most iPhones, was announced as the fifth MagSafe product. It is compatible with other MagSafe accessories, even if it does not use MagSafe directly.

Everything from spring or summer Further details on prices and further details are currently missing. PopGrip and PopWallet + for MagSafe will appear in “spring 2021”, followed by PopMount for MagSafe including Car-Vent version in summer. The PopGrip Slide Stretch should already be available at the end of March.

With all the new products, it is still unclear how durable the magnetic connection between the Popsockets products and the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max is. There had been a lot of criticism in connection with Apple’s in-house card cover, the “iPhone leather wallet with MagSafe” – it tends to fall off when you put it in your pocket.
