Hyundai for its Prophecy concept car, Ferrari for its production car Roma and Porsche for the design language of its entire model range are the winners of this year’s Car Design Awards. The “Oscar” of the auto designers 696 was launched by the Italian auto design magazine Auto & Design. This time the award ceremony in Turin was held virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In the concept car category, the Hyndai designers were followed by those of the EXP 100 GT from Bentley and the Seat designers for the Cupra Tavascan on their seats. The Porsche Taykan and Land Rovers Defender came in second and third behind Ferrari, as did the Peugeot and Mazda designers behind the Porsche designers.

The jury passed from journalists from various international car magazines. Jury chairman Silvia Baruffaldi, editor of Auto & Design, sees positive things in the award ceremony, which is being held online for the first time. As a result, “connections to the whole world” were made.

Futuristic, elegant, iconic Hyundai had its futuristic concept Prophecy presented in March this year. The line of the body is supposed to be reminiscent of a stone that has been polished by water over the centuries. It extends from the A-pillar of the vehicle to the rear. On the other hand, the “muscular rear appearance even when standing still” should create a powerful impression. Without a conventional drive, the Prophecy does not need a conventional radiator grille.

In the opinion of the jury, Porsche has managed to “develop one of the most iconic designs in the history of cars”. The current model range combines its heritage with technical innovation and thus creates an “ultra-modern and at the same time unmistakable image”. The Porsche design team have also adapted stylistic elements and proportions to the new architectures made possible by electrification.

Last year, the Alfa Romeo Tonale concept car, the Peugeot series car 208 and Citroën for its design language.
