We know that the talented team of Ninja Theory is working on the sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, but works on the mysterious Project Mara seem to proceed at full speed. Witness the latest video shared by the British developer, in which new details about the experimental title are revealed, as well as the first promising images.
Project Mara will be one of the most ambitious games in Ninja Theory
Announced exactly one year ago, Project Mara represents one of the bravest projects of the Cambridge software house. This is stated by the same Tameem Antoniades , head of the creative team of Ninja Theory, who gives us new information on enigmatic title.
“We are trying to do many things that we have never tried before “, explains Antoniades. One of the developer’s goals is to capture reality “obsessively” to create the most realistic and engaging setting ever.
We discover that the Project Mara story will take place in an apartment , faithfully reproduced – and with an almost maniacal attention – through an in-depth study of the materials that make up the surrounding environment. For the occasion, technical art director Matt Stoneham assembled a hand-made scanner to capture images of different samples, in order to convert the reference materials into detailed three-dimensional models.
Not only the materials: for the setting of Project Mara an entire apartment was scanned, with the collaboration of Clear Angle and their LiDAR scanners. In this way it was possible to obtain an accurate mapping of every element present in the house, from the most eye-catching piece of furniture to microscopic objects such as dust and debris. The acquisitions are finally converted into the in-engine renderings that we can admire in the movie, compared with the reference photos.
Ninja Theory’s achievements so far they leave us displaced . Project Mara bets on the technical sector and the qualitative goodness shown by the English team is promising to say the least. It remains to evaluate the attention paid to storytelling, another fundamental aspect of this project, as we look forward to discovering the platforms for which the game is intended.
