A good six months after the introduction of the Librem Mini, manufacturer Purism has given its mini PC a small processor upgrade: Instead of the Core i7 – 8565 U moves the Core i7 – 10510 U. Both CPUs use four cores with Hyper-Threading (eight threads) and have 15 Watt Thermal Design Power (TDP) has a base clock of 1.8 GHz, the Core i7 – 10510 U accelerates in turbo up to 4.9 instead of 4.6 GHz. This makes short-term tasks such as program starts run smoother.

Purism does not change anything on the housing and connections. The Librem Mini v2 has dimensions of 11, 8 cm × 12, 8 cm × 3.8 cm based on Intel’s NUC mini-PCs. As a unique selling point, Purism relies on open firmware in the form of Coreboot including SeaBIOS instead of a manufacturer’s UEFI and leveraging the Intel Management Engine within the chipset.

Many connections Peripherals can be connected via a total of seven USB ports, including one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C (10 GBit / s), four USB 3.2 Gen 1 type A (5 GBit / s) and two USB 2.0 type A. The image output is optionally via HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.2 – both connections are sufficient for Ultra HD (3840 × 2160 pixels) at 60 Hertz. If you don’t want to use the Gigabit Ethernet connection, you can use an older WLAN adapter (802. 11 n) from Atheros, whose Ath9k driver belongs to the main Linux development branch.

On the storage side, an M.2 SSD (optionally PCI Express 3.0 x4 or SATA 6G) or a Install 2.5-inch data carrier and two SO-DIMMs (max.DDR4 – 2400).

With the original Librem Mini, Purism had sounded out the interest and another barebone version for 600 US dollars offered. The new edition must have at least 8 GB of RAM and a 250 – GByte SSD for 700 Configure US dollars. The manufacturer also delivers its hardware to Europe, but buyers have to pay shipping and customs costs.
