Qualcomm has unveiled its 2025 Snapdragon G Series, a new lineup of SoCs designed to power the next generation of portable gaming devices. The series, which includes the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, and Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, aims to deliver a spectrum of high-performance gaming experiences tailored to diverse user needs.

The Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 is the flagship offering, marking the debut of Lumen technology, Unreal Engine 5’s dynamic global illumination and reflection system, on Android handhelds. This integration promises to elevate visual fidelity, bringing more realistic lighting effects to portable gaming. Furthermore, the G3 Gen 3 boasts a 30% increase in CPU performance and a 28% boost in GPU capabilities compared to its predecessor, alongside enhanced power optimisation and energy efficiency. Wi-Fi 7 support ensures minimal latency and increased bandwidth for online gaming.

The Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 targets dedicated gaming devices focused on high-frame-rate cloud and native gaming experiences. Designed to deliver 144 FPS gameplay, the G2 Gen 2 offers a significant performance leap over the previous generation, with a 2.3x increase in CPU performance and a 3.8x increase in GPU capabilities. Like its higher-end sibling, the G2 Gen 2 supports Wi-Fi 7 for improved wireless connectivity.

The Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 aims to democratise cloud gaming by delivering solid performance to a broader audience. Supporting up to 1080p resolution at 120 FPS, the G1 Gen 2 provides a smooth and responsive cloud gaming experience on dedicated handheld Android devices. The platform offers an 80% increase in CPU performance and a 25% increase in GPU capabilities compared to the previous generation.

Devices powered by the new Snapdragon G Series are expected to begin rolling out from OEMs this quarter. Some manufacturers developing new gaming handhelds with the Snapdragon G series include Ayaneo, OneXSugar and Retroid Pocket.
