We recently talked about Khronos Group , the group behind Vulkan, had practically finished implementing RayTracing in real time in the Vulkan graphics API , thus giving another way for more games to implement RayTracing outside of NVIDIA’s proprietary implementation, which as expected only works on the brand’s graphics cards, while the Vulkan implementation – as well as DirectX 12 – will work on any supported graphics card for the corresponding API.

As we see in the press release issued by the company , version 1.2. 162. 0 of the Vulkan SDK arrives already with the new extensions for RayTracing in Vulkan , including validation layers and tools for improved GLSL, HLSL and SPIR-V shaders.

In the same way, This support has now reached the graphics drivers from AMD and NVIDIA, so that developers can work seamlessly with RayTracing on Vulkan.

Last but not least, mention that the Vulkan examples as well as the Vulkan Guide have been updated to reflect these changes and help developers understand how RayTracing works in Vulkan, thus allowing a much faster and easier adoption by a greater number of titles.
