Rumor: Nintendo Switch Pro with 4K and mini LED display
Source: Hardware Luxx added 27th Oct 2020While Microsoft and Sony are working flat out to bring their own consoles onto the market and steal a few buyers from the competition, there are new indications from China about the planned Nintendo Switch Pro.
The Chinese news site Economic News Daily would like to have information according to which the production of the Switch successor is already being prepared, including the use of a new display technology. The screens will no longer come from the suppliers Sharp and Japan Display, as before, but from Innolux. It should be a mini LED display. Above all, Nintendo hopes that this will result in better image quality with lower power consumption and thus longer battery life. This is also intended to address another problem that every Switch player has probably encountered before. We’re talking about playing outdoors. At the moment, the display brightness is not sufficient in strong sunlight to see everything undisturbed. With a mini LED display, the display brightness could be increased so that this is also possible.
It is also unclear which resolution the new panel will bring. In the current switch generation, the consoles work with a resolution of just 1. 280 x 720 pixels. For many users, this is not enough for the price and the times. In August there were already rumors that the console would be equipped with an NVIDIA Tegra Xavier SoC, which would also bring enough power for a 4K display. It remains to be seen, however, whether Nintendo will not prefer to give priority to the battery life and instead to a 1. 080 p-display will set. The Nintendo Switch Pro will be officially presented early next year. At the moment there is no information about a specific date or the price.
