During 2020 sales of electric vehicles registered a clear acceleration, with a + 43% respect to 12 previous months. This dynamic is even more significant if we consider that the automobile sector has seen in 2020 a contraction of about 20% of car sales, following the global pandemic.
The most up-to-date analysis published by ev-volumes highlights these results from fully electric vehicles equipped with hybrid power. In Europe, growth was even more sustained, with a + 137% compared to 2019 for a total volume of approximately 1.4 million electrified vehicles which was found to be higher than the Chinese market for the first time.
Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles captured a market share of 10, 2% of the total number of cars sold in Europe during the 2020, confirming that the main push towards electricity-powered migration comes from European nations. In the rest of the world, growth was positive but not at the same sustained rate as in the old continent.
Analyzing in detail the sales in European countries, Germany with just under 400. 00 0 electrified vehicles, higher than US value with 328. 00 0 cars of this type. France closed with approximately 194. 00 0 electrified vehicles sold in 2020, UK with 181. 00 0 follow suit Norway (108 . 00 0), Sweden (96. 00 0) and Netherlands (90. 00 0) have a high number of vehicles of this type compared to the population. The Italian data speaks of 61. 00 0 vehicles sold , an interesting figure that can only increase over the course of 2021 in the light of ‘interest of consumers and the availability of state incentives.
For 2021 approximately 150 new models of electric vehicles are expected to debut on the market or hybrids , with an overall supply that can only stimulate additional consumer demand compared to the values of 2020. Estimates for the current year foresee 4.6 million electrified vehicles that will be sold worldwide.
